Lets Clear Some Things Up…

It has come to our attention that some are questioning the validity of our insider sources. Never in any article have we “confirmed” or broke a news story in regards to any upcoming Marvel film. We have simply been passing along “live” news (mostly casting discussions) from our sources. We say “live” because things change constantly and nothing is set in stone until it’s 100% confirmed by Marvel. We realize this, and this is why in all of our articles we state that this news cannot be confirmed and casting deals may or may not work out, which is something our sources even wanted us to point out in every casting article. The last thing we’d like at AvengersNews.com is to report fabricated or completely false information.

Since every Marvel Studios film (besides Captain America: The First Avenger) is in early stages of pre-production, we’re surprised anybody has taken any of the information we pass along as a confirmed fact. We have even mentioned that no official news will be announced until, at the earliest, Comic Con in San Diego this July. Since these films are all in pre-production nothing can be 100% confirmed, not even from Marvel themselves. Things change constantly throughout pre to post-production, including story, characters, sets, plot lines, etc.

In regards to Josh Holloway’s rumored role, his agent can’t necessarily confirm or deny any castings news at this point. It is not allowed by Marvel for anybody from his camp to discuss anything until something is official. We trust this particular source, but even they had no details for us on whom he could play or what Marvel films he could potentially star in. Our best guess was that he could play the characters we mentioned, based on whom we heard was supposed to be in upcoming Marvel Studios films.

Our recent Kree Story only mentioned that thus far, there were no plans of any Kree characters being involved in the story. We wanted to clear the rumors up that were floating on the net that Ms. Marvel and Captain Marvel were indeed in the film. We have only mentioned those characters in the past on whom an actor or actress could be portraying, or in a “pool” of character choices for a particular actor.

We urge our readers to revisit our past articles and simply don’t rely on AvengersNews.com stories from other websites.  Sometimes stories are taken out of context, twisted or made to seem like it is something “official” that we are reporting on.  Obviously, that’s the internet, and it’s going to happen.  We have always been careful though to note that nothing has been confirmed and nothing would be confirmed unless it was by Marvel Studios themselves.  If any of the stories we are reporting on are not confirmed at any point, we will be the ones that look stupid.  We are not making any of these stories up.  That would be disrespectful to anybody who reads our site or wants to use us as a source on theirs.  We are just as big of fans as everybody and want to discuss anything and everything surrounding these properties.

Thank you.

:) Thanks for the clear up. Things always get lost in translation, like you said, its the internet.

  3. Sorceress says:

Thanks for clearing this up. I understand since the film is so far away things can’t be confirmed and we don’t know who will be playing who or who could be playing who, but I must admit i’m enjoying these “scoops” and hope some materialize. I’m sorry other sites are taking what you heard as confirmation of things. I have noticed you guys are posting very carefully what isn’t confirmed. Thanks again!

  4. Ryan says:

I just hope that people taking rumor for fact won’t slow you down in passing along the tidbits that you do hear. I really like having all this Marvel movie info in one place, and love getting excited about possibilities. Keep up the great work.

  5. Tony says:

You do know that only the guilty feel the need to go out of their way to defend themselves, right?

This is basically an admittance of guilt.

  6. James says:

Seems to me that all you guys post is unfounded rumours from “insider sources” in order to get a mention from other (bigger, better) sites to increase your Google ranking and make more money from advertising!

  7. Simon Jones says:

How is it this barely known site gets so many exclusive inside scoops anyway…oh thats right. You’re making them up!!!

No other site has taken what you’ve said as fact. You just dont like the fact that great sites like Comic Book Movie are showing you up as LIARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. John says:

Simon: You do realize the definition of “rumor” don’t you? Just because something is a rumor, as “confirmed” by Comic Book Movie, doesn’t mean that things aren’t happening. There’s a big difference between a rumor and a blatant lie. I actually have quite a distaste for Comic Book Movie anyways based on some of their past reporting and so called “Exclusives” that they just lifted from other sites, but that’s not the point here…

Now I have no idea where this site is getting their information, but it seems highly unlikely to me that they would just put random names in a hat and start pulling them out and creating rumors. I mean they were the first to post the Kevin Pennington stuff and had you heard of him before that casting news? I hadn’t… So if they were just making up rumors why would they have used that guy? It would make no sense…

So if this Josh Holloway stuff turns out to be true, I hope you all eat your words, if not, who cares… it was a rumor… calm down, it’s just a movie for christ sake.

  9. Lindsey says:

Actually, John, MarvelousNews.com was the FIRST site to report the Kevin Pennington/Marvel Studios rumor, not these people:

    http://marvelousnews.com/index.php?catid=23&itemid=13100

Next time, know what you’re talking about before calling someone else out, love :)

  10. John says:

Touche, good call Lindsey. I don’t read MarvelousNews.com. This was just the first place I saw it before the big sites I do read picked it up…

I’m still not one to call out a site on blatant lies though until there’s some proof one way or the other and in the Josh Holloway case, despite what Comic Book Movie think they’ve proved, I still see no proof one way or the other.

It would be like me saying “Lebron James is thinking about coming to the Chicago Bulls”, that would be a rumor, I could really say any team, but it would still be a rumor, but it would be a blatant lie to say “Lebron James has signed with the Bulls”… and I don’t see anyone saying one way or the other in the case of this Holloway stuff… so like I said, guess we’ll just have to see. But until that time I’ll still get my avengers news here rather than Comic Book Movie

  11. Lindsey says:

Well I only started reading this site after Comic Book Movie began referencing them. They were the only site out there to give these guys a shot. Do you remember anyone else quoting them.. ever? If it wasn’t for Comic Book Movie recycling their info they would still be unknowns.

I hear you with the Holloway thing, nothing is proved either way there. But AvengersNews DID come out and say that their source told them Kevin Pennington was being primed to play Captain Marvel:

    http://avengersnews.com/2010/05/24/kevin-pennington-being-set-to-play-captain-marvel/

Comic book Movie found out that wasn’t true. They may not get many exclusives or start rumors but they are really good at debunking them quickly.

  12. Lindsey says:

Oh, and that Lebron James analogy actually works against your point. If you made up the statement “Lebron James is thinking about coming to the Chicago Bulls” yourself and claimed to have heard it from an ‘inside source’ then you are a liar. It doesn’t matter if you put a rumor ‘bow’ on it, it’s still a lie. If someone contacts James’ manager and he says “No, that’s just a rumor” it makes people question the validity of your ‘source’

A lie is a lie, regardless of how small.

  13. Mike says:

Lindsey, AvengersNews title for the article had a question mark in the end. Never did they say it was a fact, so it’s not fair to say that was debunked to discredit them.

Hell, in the same article they said this: Quoted from our insider, “Kevin’s role won’t be disclosed publicly until closer to filming. Marvel is still choosing which characters would best fit in their cinematic universe. They don’t want to throw a character in for the sake of it; they want it to make sense. Plans are for Kevin to be in “The Avengers” in a small role to be expanded further in the future.”

  14. Lindsey says:

I get what you’re saying Mike, but the first sentence in that article:

“We’ve been receiving hints from a source that Kevin Pennington is being primed to play Captain Marvel for upcoming Marvel films.”

is then contradicted by the statement you posted. Meaning there was no point to post the information. That just sounds like a typical cover your ass disclaimer.

  15. Mike says:

Yes, I see what you mean. But I do appreciate they put the disclaimer there. I saw the same story on comicbookmovie and their title was “Kevin Pennington is Captain Marvel, but which one?”

I don’t blame AvengersNews for that rumor, they were just passing along what they may have heard, and since the film is so far away Pennington could have been in talks for Cap Marvel at that time but then changed characters. Nobody knows for sure.

If anyone is to blame for that rumor I believe it should be comicbookmovie – they took the original article out of context. Funny though because they “debunked” their own rumor. lol

  16. Tommy says:

Well it seems that you guys either work for AvengersNews or are some of the few diehard fans of it because youre missing the point. THEY started the rumor with a blatant statement: “Kevin Pennington is being primed to play Captain Marvel for upcoming Marvel films”

No two ways around it, they stated that. And regardless of the disclaimer at the bottom of the article, the first statement does not change. They should have worded it better KNOWING that someone who eventually quote them verbatim, which is exactly what happened.

  17. Mike says:

I enjoy both sites, so I have no clear favorite. But I still do not think Avengersnews is to blame for that rumor and believe they have been careful when posting rumors on their site to cover their ass. I don’t take anything I read about the Avengers (on any site) as fact unless it’s announced in a press release.

But can the same thing not be said about all the negative comments on here and people defending comicbookmovie? I don’t think this site was attacking comicbookmovie so I don’t get the hostility.

To anyone who works at AvengersNews reading this: comicbookmovie does not have a good reputation, they make stories about ANYTHING and most of it is bullshit. Recent example is the story on the Shield Hellicarrier and Ms. Marvel (that was for the animated film, yet they twisted the words to make it seem like it was going to be in the live action film) You can check on google or really any fan board, people bash them all the time. Don’t let any of the negative comments discourage you.

  18. John says:

I hope Lebron James comes to Chicago :)

  19. Josh says:

You mean this Ms. Marvel/Helicarrier article?

“Will Ms. Marvel and the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier Appear in The Avengers Movie?

We all know that Captain America, Thor and Iron Man will be teaming up in 2012′s The Avengers. But who else will be joining them? So far, characters like Nick Fury, Black Widow and War Machine all look to have some sort of role in the team while rumours have run rampant that heroes such as Ant-Man, Wasp, Hawkeye and even Captain Marvel will also turn up in some way.

However, an article over at ShadowLocked indicates that there will be a surprise addition to the teams roster while the appearence of the S.H.I.E.L.D Helicarrier may have also been accidentily confirmed!

Ms. Marvel is said to be included in the cast of the new 3D CG animated film which will soon be released at London’s Madame Tussauds alongside a host of other Marvel characters including Spider-Man, Iron Man and Hulk. The film’s director, Joshua Wexler, was asked how closely he worked with Marvel Studios and proceeded to let slip the following: “We worked with Marvel and did a lot of work here in London and in LA. We had literally hundreds of people working on the development and the animation of the film solidly for the past six months.”

All sounds pretty standard so far right? Well, read on: “Certain things like the S.H.I.E.L.D helicarrier were made more modern than in the comics in order to fit in with designs they are working on for the Avengers movie.” And as for whether or not Ms. Marvel will be in The Avengers? The director responded with a rather cryptic answer that seems to hint at the fact that Marvel may be thinking of including her, “Maybe…!” ”

The guy CONFIRMED that the designs for the Helicarrier were modernized for use in THE MOVIE, not the animated film.

    Read the post… THEN comment.

BTW, AvengersNews credibility is far lower than Comic Book Movie’s. If you read the messageboards of other sites you would see that.

    Mike:

Are you blind – its clear from the info the guy above posted that the guy was talking about the LIVE ACTION movie and not the anmated one he was the director of. Get your facts straight.

  21. MelbourneGirl says:

Hey! CBM & AvengersNews, can we just agree both of your sites report crap and false information?

I’ve read tons of crap on cbm and here as well that I don’t believe. It’s fun to speculate but nothing is confirmed. The movie doesn’t even shoot until January, so when I read stuff like “this character is confirmed” this storyline is confirmed. Whatever.

I do think cbm makes it look like stories are confirmed/bigger than they should. Please stop that.
