Iron Patriot Spotted on Iron Man 3 Set

People are still debating over whether or not The Mandarin is the villain in Iron Man 3, yet most speculate that Ben Kingsley’s role is indeed that.  What people will no longer be debating about is who James Badge Dale will be playing.  As you can  see, at some point he will be donning the Iron Patriot suit.  For those of you that don’t know about the Iron Patriot, here’s a nice summary from BadAssDigest;

After the events of Civil War, and after the death of Captain America (he got better), AND after the Skrull Secret Invasion, SHIELD was shelved. In its place was formed HAMMER which – and you’re not going to believe this – was headed by former Green Goblin (and, for the record, former dead guy) Norman Osborne.

In the new HAMMER regime Osborne staffed up a whole new Avengers team, made up of villains wearing the costumes of heroes (who were on the lam in the post-Civil War world). Osborne himself led the team as the Iron Patriot, wearing old confiscated Iron Man armor repainted to ‘honor’ Captain America.

Clearly James Badge Dale will not be portraying Norman Osbourne because Sony owns the rights to that character, so it’s safe to assume this particular story has be rewritten.  Also, now that we have a solid movie universe with The Avengers, it’ll be interesting to see how this relates back to Captain America.  Will we get a Chris Evans/Steve Rogers cameo in Iron Man 3?
