Is Red Skull A Villain In the Avengers?

It appears that Captain America’s arch nemesis Red Skull may in fact make an appearance in the Avengers.  We’ve heard alot rumors through pre-production about Kree, Skrulls, and even The Incredible Hulk being possible villains, but never Red Skull.  It would definitely make sense though since we’re unsure of what actually happened to Red Skull at the end of Captain America: The First Avengers.  Coupled with Marvel’s insistency for actors to sign huge multipicture deals, I can see it happening.

NECA’s HeroClix sent out a product description for their “Marvel’s the Avengers” miniature figurines that seemed to reveal this potential spoiler.

“Charging straight out of theaters and onto your tabletop, Marvel’s the Avengers Movie HeroClix set features heroes like Captain America and Thor as they battle the villainy of the Red Skull and Loki! Each Counter-Top display includes standard one-figure boosters as well as new three-figure “Team Packs”! Team Packs are designed with strong thematic undertones – play a Hydra force or defend freedom with a S.H.I.E.L.D. team pack!”

This may also not be true.  Whenever a toy line is released for these types movies, especially comic book movies, they add additional characters that appeared in the comics to boost sales.  I guess we’ll have to wait and see.  Maybe he’s in the 2nd trailer???
