Once it was announced that Disney had purchased Marvel, alot of people started wondering if Pixar would ever come into play. It was said, that prior to the announcement, John Lasseter had actually met with Marvel executives and got "really excited". Now a rumor is going around that Ant-Man might be Marvel property that they try to tackle first.
"Marvel Studios has had an Ant Man movie in development for a while, with a script bySpaced/Shaun of The Dead/Hot Fuzz/Scott Pilgrim’s Edgar Wright Jr and Joe Cornish, to be directed by Wright. And probably with Simon Pegg in the lead.
As of last year, Wright and Cornish were working on a second draft of the script, while Wright described as “It’s going to be less overtly comedic than anything else I’ve ever done. It’s more of a full-on action adventure sci-fi film but with a comedic element – in the same spirit of a lot of escapist fare like that. It’s certainly not a superhero spoof or pastiche and it certainly isn’t a sort of Honey I Shrunk The Kids endeavour at all.”
Will Pixar steal a jump? Could Pixar even use Wright and Cornish’s work? While Pixar’s work is normally family-friendly, both Wright and Cornish’s work is usually far edgier, and one would expect even a superhero film co-written by the pair to have an older audience in mind."
If Edgar Wright and Pixar were to team up on this project, it could be something really special. As of right now, Wright is finishing up Scott Pilgrim vs. The World starring Michael Cera. After that, I assume he'll move on to the much talked about third film with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, "The World's End". If that were the case, it would be a couple years before he gets to Ant-Man. There's also the possibility of him pushing that film back for the opportunity to work with Pixar. Or he may very well be moved off the project completely. Whatever happens, this is a very cool rumor especially since news on Ant-Man has been slow for a long time now.
