Thor Has Been Cast!
For those of you who made it out to see J.J. Abrams Star Trek re-boot (great film btw), you should recognize Chris Hemsworth as George Kirk, Captain Kirk’s father. Well, from now on you’ll recognize him as Thor in both both the solo Thor movie directed by Kenneth Branagh, as well as The Avengers. Here’s a snippet from Nikki Finke’s article on the subject.
“Chris had read for the part of Thor but wasn’t given a test because a casting director had nixed him early on. I’m told Chris’ younger brother Liam (who’s also a ROAR client) then tested for the role of Thor, but Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige passed. Then, after a conversation with Ward (“You’ve got to reconsider Chris, he’s your guy”), Feige decided to let Chris read again. And once Marvel put him on tape, it was “Oh my god”. Branagh came to town last week and saw the Chris test and made the final casting decision today.”
This is pretty good casting. I haven’t seen him in anything besides Star Trek, but he was good for the short time he was on screen. Apparently he’s been on a popular Austrailian show “Home and Away”, so you can check him out there if you feel so inclined. It’s nice to hear some more news regarding this one, it’s gonna be interesting.

I loved Chris’ portrayal as George Kirk, and while I am not a big Comic Book guy my favorites were Spiderman, Ironman ant Thor, so I look forward to seeing the Thor movie. I had heard that Marvel was making that one of their studio’s next projects. I’m looking forward to it.
Yeah, the fact that Kenneth Branagh is directing this one makes me very curious as to what kind of movie we’re going to see.
I am a little worried about this casting. Thor is supposed to be 6 and a half feet tall and hugely muscled. I really don’t want to see a (I’m sorry) little guy play the role. I understand that it could be tough to find say a big, viking looking professional wrestler that could act. However this seemes like it might be a mistake. (I guess Dolph Lundgren is too old).
I am getting tired of all the superheros coming out as puny little guys with powers. Come on, The heros in comics are ripped with muscle. pretty bad when marvel only uses computer animation for the ripped superheros when there are guys that fit the bill with out that.
He had better grow his hair out. I want epic flowing blond hair.
What about tripple H from the WWE to play Thor
The guy who played Beowulf in Beowulf vs. Grendel, and King Leonidus in 300 would have been a vastly superior choice.
Gerard Butler, has already proven he has the body, and the fighting ability to make a kick butt God of Thunder
