Mickey Rourke Is Official…Almost!

It’s not 100%, but I think we’ll be hearing that very soon.  There was actually a video going around for the past couple of days of some paparazzi following Mickey Rourke around and at one point they shout “Iron Man 2?”, and he replies “You bet your ass”.  Now I didn’t report about it because it was far from an official statement and it’s gone back and forth so much I was waiting for something more concrete.  And Mickey could have been saying that just to shut up the annoying paparazzi.  Well now we have something more concrete that’s for sure.  Nikki Finke’s Deadline Hollywood is reporting that he has officially signed on to Iron Man 2.

“After at first being low-balled by the studio to the tune of $250K, Rourke has signed on for the role of the Russian villain in the sequel after his agent David Unger got the quote up to a “significant” level despite this punishing economic climate where the studios are taking advantage of talent.”

Again this isn’t 100% official and won’t be until we hear something from Marvel.  Apparently he has also been in talks to appear as the villain in Spiderman 4 (Yeah, it’s happening), so this could be why the negotiations keep going back and forth.  I’d think it’d be a no brainier between the two movies after the disappointment that was Spiderman 3.  Now I love that franchise as well, but Iron Man is just getting started, while Spiderman is kind of picking up the pieces so to speak.  Hopefully we’ll hear something official from Marvel soon.
