UPDATED: Sam Rockwell Confirmed As A Villain For Iron Man 2!
Annoying Update: Yes, this is an annoying update indeed, but lets get it out of the way before I voice my irritation with MTV’s shoddy reporting. IESB caught up with Sam Rockwell at Sundance and asked him about Iron Man 2. This is what he said;
“I don’t know if, we will see, we’ll see, hopefully it will work out. Fingers crossed.”
IESB goes on to say that he’s not “officially” signed. Now, what’s irritating about this is the below quote from the MTV story we ran.
“One blockbuster film later, the phone conversation was accompanied by an offer to play Hammer, and Rockwell accepted.”
Um, did you just make that up MTV? I think you did. It looks to me that MTV was trying to be the first place to announce “officially” the new villain in Iron Man 2 and rushed the story out. On the other hand Rockwell’s comments at Sundance are vague and he very well could have already signed on for the Justin Hammer role, but IESB says it’s not official. Either way I really hope all of this gets cleared up soon as I want Rockwell in this movie and hopefully you all do to. What do you guys think is really going on here? You can see the original story after the jump.

Original Story:
Sam Rockwell has confirmed to MTV News that he will indeed be playing Justin Hammer in Iron Man 2. Earlier this month, it was reported that Rockwell had been in negotiations to play Hammer, as well as Mickey Rourke being up for the role of Crimson Dynamo. Apparently Mr. Rockwell had spoke with director Jon Favreau about playing Tony Stark in the first film but it never panned out. So far, this is probably my favorite piece of news regarding Iron Man 2 or any of these films for that matter. Sam Rockwell is hands down one of my favorite actors and, in my opinion, one of the better working actors today. He obviously picks and chooses his projects very carefully (I’m not talking about you Charlie’s Angels) as we don’t see him that often (Choke and Frost/Nixon most recently). This says a lot about how this sequel is shaping up. Lets hope that Mickey Rourke confirms his participation as well. His performance in The Wrestler this year deserves all the praise it has been getting.
