No More Sam Jackson As Nick Fury?
In an interview with the L.A. Times, Samuel L. Jackson has indicated that he may not be returning as Nick Fury in Iron Man 2. This obviously comes as a shock since his appearance after the closing credits of the first film is what jump started The Avengers spin off in motion. Here’s a snippet.
“I saw ['Iron Man' and 'Iron Man 2' director] Jon Favreau at the Scream Awards and we had a conversation. He said, ‘I hope things are working out for you because we’re writing stuff for you.’ Then all of a sudden last week I talked to my agents and manager and things aren’t really working that well.”
[EDIT]
“There was a huge kind of negotiation that broke down. I don’t know. Maybe I won’t be Nick Fury. Maybe somebody else will be Nick Fury or maybe Nick Fury won’t be in it. There seems to be an economic crisis in the Marvel Comics world so [they're saying to me], ‘We’re not making that deal. ‘”
This doesn’t mean that Nick Fury won’t show up in Iron Man 2 or play a big role in The Avengers film. Some may interpret these comments made by Sammy Jack (for short) as truths, but he doesn’t really have any say in the on screen fate of the leader of S.H.I.E.L.D. I’m sure we’ll see Nick Fury in some way. You never know, they could always get The Hoff to return to the role. I’m sure he could use the work. Stay Tuned.
