Secret Invasion: Requiem #1 Review

Happy Holidays everybody!  I know, it’s our very first review of, well, anything really.  Sorry it’s been so long for us to finally get one of these up, but I had to catch up on a lot of books and with the holidays it’s been pretty slow around here.  Since there are a multitude of things going on in the Marvel / Avengers universe, I felt it would be appropriate for our very first review to be on a book focusing on one of the founding members of The Avengers; Ant-Man.

A quick plot synopsis goes like this; Ant-Man (and others) examine some of the events that lead up to the tragic death of a central character.  It’s hard to say much more without giving away the death I just mentioned, but that really is the gist of it.  It’s a simple story that’s a good introduction to one of our main Avengers.

What’s really cool about this book is that it actually contains 2 other books.  Hank Pym’s (Ant-Man) reflections of past events are shown through these two books (Tales To Astonish #44 & The Avengers #213) which are pretty significant snapshots of Ant-Man’s crazy history.  We start with one of his very early stories showcasing his multiple powers and the origins of The Wasp.  The second gives us a glimpse at his stint as Yellowjacket, just one of the many identity crises Ant-Man has suffered from (I told you he had a rocky past).

The use of older books as flashbacks is typically frowned upon in other mediums, but it serves it’s purpose well here.  Think of it as a clip show; ie The Seinfeld finale, but good.  If you are new to The Avengers or looking for a quick refresher on a main character, this is a perfect place to start.

Until I can think of a better rating system (suggestions people!), I’m gonna use the ‘ole “…out of 10″ system for our first review.  I hope to roll out more reviews over the next few weeks, but try and bare with me, I still have some catching up to do.

These reviews will also get longer (promise).
