Devan Faraci over at CHUD has dissected some recent comments made by Robert Downey Jr. while on the set of Sherlock Holmes. Based on the quote it sounds as if Giant Man may make an appearance in The Avengers movie. This is just specualation at this point, but it's worth noting. Below is part of the quote;
“The danger you run with colliding all these worlds is [director] Jon [Favreau] was very certain that ‘Iron Man’ should be set in a very realistic world. Nothing that happened in ‘Iron Man’ is really outside the realm of possibility. Once you start talking about Valhalla and supersized super soldiers and jolly green giants it warrants much further discussion.”
Head on over to CHUD to see what they have to say.

The “green” in “jolly green giant” makes me think it’s a reference to the Hulk. Either way, here’s hoping that Giant Man/Ant Man makes it into the movie in some form.

They are gonna make the 1st avengers movie ut of the story from the cartoon dvd. Though it will be good, They will fight the hulk. And he will whip everyone but cpt. America, (which is BS, hulk would kill him) then everyone will beleive in Cpt America. Just like the cartoon, but I dont think they will HAVE THE ALIENS IN IT.

They have to include Giant Man at some point, he was the heart of the Avengers through times with Hercules and Quicksilver. If they want to upstage every superhero out there, they would include these characters at some point. A transition from antman to giantman would be ideal. I also love the transitional avengers with Galiath. Stan Lee needs to advise these film makers so they screw up the history.

For those saying Will Smith as Luke Cage, nononononono.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, as Power Man. He has the body, he can act, and he has charisma. Or the Falcon, Cap’s buddy. But I see the Rock as more of a Luke Cage kinda role

Does the author of this site KNOW anything about Marvel characters? The Hulk is the one who has been referred to as the Jolly Green Giant going on 40 years now and in another article about Hawkeye he mentions he’s not too familiar with the character? WTF?

darklighter1: First of all there are more than 1 writer on the site and I (who also wrote the hawkeye post) am not the main author and will totally admit that I don’t know much about the character. Secondly, if you actually read the post and the quote above you would know that the part of the quote in question, with regards to “Giant Man” is not the words “jolly green giant”, but “supersized soldiers”.

I think “super-sized super soldiers” is a reference to Bronsky/Abomination from the Hulk movie and not anything upcoming.

“Super soldier” normally refers to Captain America, so not sure if that means Giant Man/Goliath or not. Hank Pym (in his many forms) was a regular member of the Avengers but I dont know that he was a “key” member, especially when compared to Cap or Iron Man or someone like Hawkeye, who was a consistant member of many of the teams in three (Hawkeye, Goliath, Ronin) different forms. Besides, Hank Pym was almost as much of a weenie as Iron Man turned out to be (like the movies, never been really happy with the character in the comics). I -think- that Loki is going to be the key villian since I am seeing him cast as a character in there.

Giantman, Antman Yellowjacket and now he goes by the Wasp, the Avengers were created in 1963-64 theres been hundreds of stories and nearly as many Avengers. They all can’t be in the first movie. The X-men had the same thing going. If your a fan of the Avengers you can’t expect all the good ones to be there.

In the Ultimate universe all of the Ultimates are part of SHIELD’s Super-Soldier program, so I can see where the OP might think Giant Man is the “Super-sized Super Soldier”. Marvel has stated that Ant-man would definitely not be in the Avengers movie, my belief is because they want to do a solo movie with the new, comically charged Ant-man. They did jsut cast Eva Longoria as Janet Van Dyne (Wasp) so there is the possibility that either Giant-man or Yellowjacket will be in it also.

For the record, Eva Longoria hasn’t officially been casted (that I’ve read) but is likely to get the part of Wasp (Janet Van Dyne)…which I think would be a disappointment. Her acting is average at best. Is she hot? Sure. But I think there are several actresses that can not only act better but resemble the character much more than Longoria.

The avengers movie should have the original 5 avengers(iron man,Thor,hulk the wasp and antman) and captain america
