Sorry, this news broke earlier today, so I apologize for my tardiness, but yes, it is true. Jon Favreau will be Executive Producing The Avengers movie and Robert Downey Jr. will be reprising his role as Tony Stark. Now I know some of you were thinking that Favreau would be directing that based on my headline, but I had to get your attention. Also, having him on board in any capacity is just fantastic. In the latest press release from Marvel, they go into a little more detail regarding this news as well as "officially" confirming Favreau and Don Cheadle for Iron Man 2. This is by far the most exciting news to be released regarding any of these films, in particular, Robert Downey Jr. being confirmed for The Avengers. After Iron Man's huge success, Marvel knows that an Avengers movie that maintains continuity is of the utmost importance. I doubt there's any of you that would disagree. "As part of his four picture deal with Marvel Studios, Robert Downey Jr. is appearing as Tony Stark in THE AVENGERS motion picture, as well as reprising his starring role as the larger-than-life leading character in IRON MAN 2. Jon Favreau will return to direct the sequel to the blockbuster IRON MAN, which to date has grossed over $578 million worldwide, as well as executive produce THE AVENGERS."
