We reported about this a while back, but apparently rumors are still circulating that The Incredible Hulk will end up being the Villain in The Avengers film. Hawk Otsby and Mark Fergus (Iron Man Screenwriters), have stated that they would like to see all of these Marvel films lead up to the events in The Avengers (obviously). Another point they bring up is regarding the ending of The Incredible Hulk.
“Fans will remember that the finale of The Incredible Hulk ended ambiguously [Spoiler Ahead], with Ed Norton smirking slightly after bringing down the abomination. The very end scene of the film also seems to be setting up this storyline, with General Ross talking to Tony Stark about the green-skinned menace.”
When I first saw The Incredible Hulk, that’s not what I originally though it was hinting at (Hulk going bad), but I can see that now. With Bruce Banner finally being able to control the monster inside him, it would make sense if he took a turn for the worse. I’m starting to think the Hulk as the main villain could be a good thing.

I thought that the hulk was one of the Avengers?!?!
November 24th, 2008 at 6:00 pm
no, when you saw Bruce Banner’s eyes they turned green, he then smiled, to me it just showed the Banner was still the Hulk. Also, remember, Tony Stark walked into the bar and told General Ross that they were putting a team together, meaning he wanted the Hulk to be part of the team and needed the General’s help in getting the Hulk.

Hulk was one of the Avengers. The movie made it seem like Tony Stark wanted the Hulk to be a part of the Avengers team.

It does make some sense for Hulk to be the bad guy. Though he was one of the Avengers, I don’t think he was a member at the same time as Captain America. So, strictly speaking, it would be inaccurate if he’s one of the Avengers in the movie.
Tony Stark does also create an armour suit called the ‘Hulkbuster.’ So it’s plausible that the team he mentions to General Ross is going to help capture Hulk.
Besides - try telling me you don’t want to see Hulk go off his nut for at least one film and start trashing everything in sight, lol. He’ll probably be a good guy by the end of the film anyway. Much like Silver Surfer was in the second Fantastic Four movie.

The hulk needs to be a part of the avengers as idicated at the end of the film making him a super villian is a very ad idea
December 14th, 2008 at 5:54 am
I’d like to know who will be playin Captain America. I heard Will Smith, but I’m not sure…anyone know?
December 22nd, 2008 at 8:39 am
From the ending of Hulk, it was my understanding that Stark had heard of Thunderbolt’s attempts to capture the Hulk. He was, in fact, letting Thunderbolt know of a “team” that he was putting together and the “team” could be used to capture the Hulk. My guess was that, in the Avengers movie, Thunderbolt would dupe the Avengers into thinking Bruce Banner/Hulk was a villain who needed to be stopped, and the Avengers would go after the Hulk, only realizing as the movie went on that Banner/Hulk isn’t a villain at all, which would then bring the Hulk into the fold of the Avengers.

Don’t forget that dr. Samuel Sterns was one of the hulks biggest enemy when he became “the leader” this seems to be hinted at when a few drops of the hulks blood drop on to his head in the movie. As I recall, he was at one point able to mind control the hulk. That could make him the target for the avengers without making him a true bad guy.

I think the avengers villain should be some evil genius villain or team of villains that are powerful enough to threaten the planet or the U.S. They should have a huge fight scene where the hulk goes beserk and the team has to take him down but I don’t beleive the hulk would make a good main enemy. He was after all one of the original Avengers and should be on the team, not the big villain they are fighting against.
April 7th, 2009 at 5:41 pm
No. He was hinting when they said they were putting a team together that they wanted to find the hulk to make him an avenger
April 7th, 2009 at 5:48 pm
The villain could be Doom or Mandarin
April 12th, 2009 at 3:02 pm
imo with bruce banner putting the necklace in the envelope adressed to newyork then turning to the hulk that is always possible he “hulked” his way back to new york after hearing about stark n finding a way to control the hulk and the smirk that stark gives the general when he asks who hes setting up team with is because he is refering to the hulk as the other team member

well the very first ever Avengers comic featured Loki tricking the Hulk into destroying a railway track in the hope that Thor will battle the Hulk and lose. Then the Avengers form to stop the Hulk, who turns good and they all go kick Loki’s ass. Hulk then leaves the Avengers due to his unstable state and the Avengers believe him to be their responsibility.
The reason the Avengers ever formed was to stop the Hulk, hence the Avengers prolouge:
“And there came a day, a day unlike any other, when Earth’s mightiest heroes and heroines found themselves united against a common threat. On that day, the Avengers were born — to fight the foes no single super hero could withstand!”
This goes to show that the Hulk and Loki could well be villains in the Avengers movie, although the Hulk will turn good at the end. Plus i love the idea of that storyline.

The current Marvel films have very much been grounding the super hero storylines in very real modern situations, I think a group of superheroes as their enemies would force the audience to suspend their disbelief a little too far, as would putting a mind control gizmo on the Hulk.
Having the hulk as the enemy in the beginning and then moving the antagonist focus onto a much larger and more powerful foe would be more logical. Loki would be a good choice… sort of as we’d then be bringing into the fray the whole Norse Gods premise which may be hard to swallow for non comic readers, even with thor in the picture. I’m thinking Ultimo. He’s pretty much the ultimate enemy.

The problem is, Hollywood has been taking all sorts of Marvel stuff out of context. Some of the stuff is laughable, like the lineup of heroes of the “team” the Wolverine: Origins lays out. If I remember correctly, Wolverine was brought from Project X to Alpha Flight. I don’t remember either one having a black teleport, and Gambit was with the Morlocks and NEVER had any early contact with Wolvie. Hulk did, for sure, but none of the later Xmen. Hollywood seems to spin the stories how THEY want to see them and drift from the original storylines. It’s pretty sad, and due to that fact, I can’t see them remaining true to the original content that caused the Avengers to form. They couldn’t even give us an interesting Galactus, just a mass of cosmic dust….. sad.

Why do people keep saying Loki should be the villain in the avengers movie?
Are you all mental? The Thor movie will be releasing before the avengers movie and who do you think the villain is going to be in that movie. I for one hate recycled villains. Fantastic four 2 was an atrocity. They originall made the silver surfer the main threat, and somehow found a way to completely take the focus off of him, though is in the movies title, and shift the focus back to doctor doom, who was the villain in the FIRST MOVIE! These movies cost millions of dollars to make, and run the risk of getting duller by the sequel, and possibly flopping in the theaters like fantastic four 2 did. So I really hope they don’t waste these super hero installments casting the same villains over and over, when they have so many good opportunities to introduce new villains. I mean come on! They RUINED Venom!!! Were they smoking crack? Venom is a huge guy, he was a mean bastard, but he wasn’t evil. He eventually patched things up with peter parker and joined him later on. But whos dumbass idea was it to make Venom and evil scrawney little snot nosed prick, played by Topher Grace, someone who was commonly referred to as a little girl on that 70’s show!!!???
I’ve seen a few of the posts written in some of these columns and they only annoy me. No Thomas jane cannot play captain america because he is already the PUNISHER. Will Smith better not friggin play cap, because he could play somebody like the falcon just fine, and they could cast someone acyually worthy of the role. I think Brad Pitt should play captain america. We all already know what he can do with a shield if you remember the movie TROY. I can forgive samuel l jackson playing Nick Fury, because he is a very secretive man, it could very well be a disguise at the moment, and also he has been portrayed as a black man before. Thor should either be played by HHH or dolph lundgren…maybe even Micky Rourk. I know, hhh isn’t a very good actor, that we’ve witnessed anyway, but he DOES have the look. If they hadn’t already made the mistake of casting Michael duncan clark as the friggin KING PIN in daredevil (which was a horrible movie, ben affleck is a homo), They could have cast him as Luke Cage, but since they are hellbent on making all of these classic characters that we all know and love, different races, and Michael duncan Clark is already the King Pin, then I’d say that Michael Jai White would make a good Luke Cage. You’ll know what I mean if you’ve ever seen Undisputed 2. After all this I only have one question…Doesn’t Stan Lee have any say in all this?
May 22nd, 2009 at 2:28 pm
the hulk as a villain yes that would be quite the contest but come on havent any of these guys read the original comics, if anyone should be the bad guy it should be APOCALYPSE!!!
May 22nd, 2009 at 2:31 pm
and to Jay if anyone should play captain america it should be kurt angle lol he seams like the patriotic type not to mention he’s white

Hulk WILL BE part of the AVENGES after this film. He gets mad people, And the avengers have to control him 1st.
June 13th, 2009 at 7:55 am
Here’s my take from everything I’ve heard or read so far: The next Iron Man movie will be a seperate story with hints on the Avengers movie, the Captain America and Thor movies will deal with their origins. I believe the Captain America movie will, for the most part, deal with him in WWII (maybe a Bucky Barnes character involved?) with him somehow ending up in the ice to be found by the Avengers in the present time (Sub Mariner maybe involved?). The Thor movie has an Odin and Loki casting already. I believe the Leader (Dr. Spence from the Hulk movie) will mind control the Hulk and the Avengers will have to subdue him, but I wouldn’t believe the Leader would be the only villan involved. I’m believing the Avengers issues 1-5 are going to be duplicated somehow. As someone pointed out, it was Loki that brought the Avengers together but the Hulk left the avengers in issue #2 or #3 I think. Just my opinion as to where the movies will all tie in to the Avengers movie.

The Hulk was the enemy of the Avengers back in issue 4 from the early 60’s - He and the Submariner fought the Avengers and discovered Captain America in the same issue. I am sure that it the story line - Cap and the Avengers are not going to have Hulk on their side - they are going after him.

I agree with those people who think that Loki and the Hulk will be involved as the main enemies of the Avengers. The guy playing Loki has already been casted on IMDB and you just know the Hulk will be back. I am hoping they don’t focus the entire movie on those two being the enemy since we’ll have already seen Loki in Thor’s origin movie. You know that other enemies such as Ultron and the Masters of Evil will have to make an appearance at some point (assuming there will be sequels) so it will be interesting to see how the first movie develops.
August 23rd, 2009 at 6:32 pm
Ok the original Avengers were The Hulk Captain America Iron Man and Thor..you can’t have an avengers movie that isnt like that. He smiled at the end because he knows he can control it now. And all Stark said was he was putting together a team. If Hulk is the villian it will ruin everything.

Wow … I will add bookmark this site !! So great !!
November 22nd, 2009 at 4:48 pm
I was still wondering about the Loki sign in.
With most of the previous films folowing close to the comics i still think it would be great to see a Ultimates 1/2 story line. The Hulk going on a rampage whilst Loki is causing most of the trouble pulling the strings against Thor.
Now that would be great.
November 26th, 2009 at 9:11 am
I can’t wait for this movie to come out !! The only thing I don’t agree with is Sam Jackson playing Nick Fury, not b/c he’s blk but b/c yes at 1 point he was blk, BUT he originally was white !! Brad Pitt would be a good choice but he’s not a comic book actor. As long as they get all these stars, Ed Norton, Robert Downey Jr n so on, to aign-on for The Avengers, it could be 1 of the BIGGEST star studded casts EVER !!
December 14th, 2009 at 5:49 am
It would be cool to see The Hulk go up against Thor, Ironman, and Captain America.
Besides, with a super team like The Avengers, you need a villain who can actually give them all a challenge to make it a good fight. And I would be very disappointed if The Avengers just went up against an evil team.
January 9th, 2010 at 10:46 pm
What? No Ant/Giant Man or The Wasp?!?!
January 25th, 2010 at 10:15 am
If they follow the Ultimate Avengers Arc, then they will probably fight the Hulk, however if they stay true to the Origins of the characters, LOKI will be the main villain. It makes sense to have Loki as the villain in the Thor movie, have him escape in the end, then have him be the villain in the Avengers. It’s a nice continuity tie in, and gives Thor a reason to GO to Midgard, to join the Avengers. Besides, nothing Iron Man or Thunderbolt Ross do, can get Hulk to join the fight, BUT, a god with Loki’s powers could manipulate the Hulk, and the Hulk can fight the Avengers (for all those who want that scenario) eventually turn on Loki, and have the Hulk where he belongs, in the Original Avengers line-up fighting Loki.
Seems rather simple to me.

NOw, the Original Avengers were The Ant Man, Hulk, Iron Man and Thor. I think the Wasp was there too. Cap didn’t join till issue 4.
